Monica Angle describes Working on the Seam as:

Works that combine techniques of painting
and printmaking.  Using monoprint processes, I apply layers of color by transferring watermedia from a flat surface to paper, wood or canvas. 
Building up the color by layer captures traces left by the water as it
moves across the surface.  Even though I repeat a gesture, it will not
appear the same way twice.  These gestures combine to suggest a space as
pathways and clearings form within an image.  Like the experience of
recalling a place, the images generate a type of map, recording the
channels upon which the image is based.
